It was an honor to co-design and build a tree house for Longwood Gardens, one of the premier horticultural centers in the country. With a display of three tree houses, Longwood as brought in an entirely new clientele and distinctly boosted visitation and membership.
Named the Lookout Loft, our project celebrates the trees in which it is set and boasts a code compliant, universally accessible ramp and custom steel and wood railings leading first to an open air, sculptural pavilion of scribed logs and then over a bridge to a gothic inspired roofed tree house with archways, inspiring details, and shingle roof.
As with other projects, we were involved with every detail from start to finish- selecting and harvesting the trees with just the right sculptural form and bends, consulting with other design professionals and engineers, rough framing, and the custom scribing, cutting, fitting, and installation that make this project inspiring to see. As can be seen in a few of the photos, we prefabricated much of the structure in our native Vermont, and shipped it down for our crew to install and finalize on site. Kennet Square PA 2008.
