Morris Arboretum Tree House
Administered by the University of Pennsylvania, Morris Arboretum is in Philadelphia PA. Seeking to draw in new membership and to educate about trees and our relationship to them, the Arboretum created the Tree Adventure, an inspiring, universally accessible structure soaring to 50' off the ground. Designed by Metcalfe Architecture and Design of Philadelphia, it is truly amazing.
Stauffer Woodworking is proud to have acted as design consultants, and to have crafted all the custom woodwork for the project including the sculptural hoop entrance, stick railings, modern timber-framed pavilion, and the 10' diameter x 16' tall woven bird's nest! We pre-fabricated all our elements in Vermont and trucked them down for install by our crew.
Prefabricating custom work like this has been a great tool and has several advantages. It lowers impact on the site and client operations, allows for safe, efficient and accurate work on the ground and indoors, reduces travel and lodging costs, and allows us to take advantage of developed local networks and relationships.
